Authors Jim Vires and Genie Rayner founded the small publishing group Branch Hill Publications.  Located in southern Vermont, Branch Hill works to transform writers into authors.  Paige Sweeney, our intern from Southern Vermont College, is starting her second year with us. Paige is a writer who brings a detailed eye and insightful comments to manuscripts submitted to Branch Hill.

Branch Hill focuses on print-on-demand publishing for three reasons: electronic publishing is the wave of the future, making books more accessible to readers in more ways; it’s better for the environment; and books are available quicker.

Both Vires and Rayner are lifelong writers and have been published in print and electronic media.  Jim Vires’ book Evolution of a Conceptual God: Navigating the Minefields was published by Key Publications in the spring of 2010.  This book was updated and republished as The Continuing Evolution of a Conceptual God in 2012. Vires also has two short stories published in Vicious Spirits and Vicious Bites.  Rayner’s novel Song of the Blessing Trees was published in the winter of 2009 by Gilead Books. Rayner cowrote and edited a pastoral/spirituality book to carry forth the writings of her mother. God's I Am In You was published in 2010

Rayner has also worked as a freelance editor for many years.  Doing business as Magic Lamp Editing Services, she works with clients throughout the US, as well as the UK and Germany, and she serves as the editor-in-chief of Branch Hill.  Rayner is also a writing mentor and companion, and an artisan and photography artist.  She received her MA in writing and creative studies from Vermont College in 2005.

Vires plays the mandolin in a style designed to make dogs howl. He brings passion to the process of turning a writer into an author.

Our Business: Because it is not a vanity press, Branch Hill Publications does not accept every manuscript that is submitted to them.  There is, in fact, a rigorous editorial screening process authors must complete before potential acceptance.  On the other hand, if a manuscript needs work but has promise, Vires and Rayner will work with submitting authors to shepherd the manuscript into a marketable product.

We are also pleased to announce our new imprint, Tehom Books. With this project we seek to publish books raising social awareness. With each book published under this imprint, Rayner and Vires donate a portion of BHP's profit toward a charity that helps the author's intended focus.
